About the Artist
Ikebana Inspirations is owned by Carla Amerau who is also the primary creative source of the ceramics on this website.
Carla grew up in an artistically creative family that lived and traveled all over the world. She started attending art classes with her mother when she was in elementary school. Carla also took art classes every chance she could during college and after graduating started college-level painting and pottery classes in Texas and Montana. Carla was first exposed to Ikebana when her mother studied Ikebana in Rangoon, Burma.
Because of her career, moving and family, Carla took a 20+ year hiatus from pottery but jumped back into both pottery and Ikebana after retiring. Carla is a certified Sogetsu Ikebana instructor and taught ceramics to wounded warriors for 8 years as part of the IMPART (Injured Military Personnel Art) program at The Art League School in Alexandria, Va. Carla’s Ikebana containers have been selected by numerous Ikebana artists for many shows at the U.S. National Arboretum and Alexandria’s Art League Biennial Sogetsu Ikebana Shows in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018.
Carla has been practicing Sogetsu Ikebana for 16+ years and has specialized in pottery specifically for Ikebana and flower arranging for 15 years. She has a BA from Washington State University and MS from Pepperdine University.
